Even though the mortgage rates are a little higher than they've been in the last few months they are still extremely low compared to historical averages. It is still a great time to purchase a home, especially when you consider the $8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit. Homes in Rochester are very affordable. There is very little reason to continue renting.

Rochester Red Wings and Father's Day
Because the weather here has been awful and last nights game was rained out we got the treat of a double header. I never knew it, but when they play a double header they only play 7 innings in each game. It was a little weird doing the seventh inning stretch in the 5th inning.
Red Osier sandwiches, Scotch Ale, peanuts and baseball. What could be more American?

Tonight's Baseball Game
Since there was a bunch of kids, a baseball field and equipment the coaches decided to split the kids up and play baseball anyway. My husband acted as umpire.
I don't know why, but all the kids played better than they have all season long. Maybe they were looser and more comfortable because it didn't count? Maybe they were jsut concerned with having fun? I don't know, but the kids looked good. Hopefully we can "bottle" that for their final games on Wednesday and Saturday.

Hopefully we'll continue to see declines throughout the week. It would be nice if all the people that are looking for the $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit could receive low rates and affordable payments.
Last weeks run-up on rates may have been a little much considering market conditions. I think we'll see modest declines in rates over the next few weeks.

Anyway, it was a great time. I'm hoping to get out and see some other shows before the Rochester Jazz Festival ends on June 20, 2009.
Off to baseball. My son has a game in Fairport. This time I won't forget the sunscreen!

Frozen Ropes Baseball Training
After a lot of research we decided to go to Frozen Ropes in East Rochester. We scheduled a half hour lesson (for $40) with Mike Scialo. I guess he was a good college player years ago that ended up getting drafted into the pros.
Mike spent a good hour with my son and didn't charge for the extra time. He worked well with him, tried to stay positive and give encouragement. I think we'll be going back weekly now. We were both happy with the lesson he recieved. You can contact Frozen Ropes at (585) 385-0420 or online at www.frozenropesrochester.com

Sun Poisoning
Now the top of my legs are badly burned and I have sun posioning. Funky litttle spots are growing up my legs and they itch like you would not believe. The worst part is that my husband keeps making fun of me. He says that we wears sunscreen because I nag him so much. Maybe I should start nagging myself.
This is going to be a really fun week.

Rochester Red Wings
As a side note, the team gave out free cowbells to the first 2,000 visitors. I was surreounded by children with bells. My ears are still ringing. Oh well, what's a little Tinititus when you get to spend a quality night with the family?

My God...Hangovers Suck
We started the night at O'Callaghans on Monroe Avenue. It's a bit of a dive but it is a fun environment. A big bunch of regulars that all know each other and an overall good feel. $5.00 pitchers of Miller Lite add greatly to the atmosphere.
After O'Cal's we headed over to East Avenue. SoHo was full of teenie boppers and we didn't stay there long. We headed over to Pearl Nightclub and it was much more our style. A very clean, classy looking establishment with lots of energy and fun. Maybe too much fun.
We also went to One Nightclub. It was a nice place but I didn't care for the clientele much. Very snooty. It seemed like most of the people there were more concerned with their image than having a good time. No fun at all.
So now I'm sitting at my desk drinking a big glass of ice water hoping nobody comes to talk to me. I should be good by lunch time.

I hate seeing mortgage rates rise, but compared to historic levels they are still quite low. It is still a great time to buy or refinance a home in the Rochester, NY area. Particularly if you are able to take advantage of the $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit. It is free money to buy a home. A gift from the government.

Welcome To My Life in Rochester
First, a little about myself. I was born and raised in the Rochester area. I graduated from School of the Arts, have two beautiful children and currently work for a major bank in the mortgage department.
Working with mortgages has been up and down the last few years but it has been a great experience. For the last few months interest rates have been very low and we've been busy with mortgage refinancing. Now that rates are starting to creep up that aspect of our business is slowing down, but President Obama's $8,000 first time home buyer credit is helping to keep the mortgage industry busy. People are coming out of the woodwork trying to buy homes.
I'm a recovering Army wife. My husband spent a year in Afghanistan with the Reserves and is currently a baseball coach in the area. We spend a lot of time with youth sports trying to keep the kids involved in fun, positive activities. It takes a lot of energy and effort but I think we get even more out of it than we put in. You really can't go wrong working with children.
In my limited "spare" time I like to take in everything the local community has to offer. That will be the focal point of this blog. I look forward to touching base with you on a regular basis.
